The wrist bands you are referring to are called
MagicBands: a cute wristband that can unlock the door to your Disney Resort hotel room, allow you to enter theme parks (with valid admission), connect
Disney PhotoPass photos to your account, and charge food and merchandise to your Disney Resort hotel during your stay. Guests can purchase a MagicBand at prearrival prices when staying at a Disney Resort hotel by visiting My MagicBands and Cards in your
My Disney Experience account. You will need to link your Disney Resort hotel reservation before you can order your MagicBands. MagicBands are also available for purchase in select stores throughout Walt Disney World Resort. If you choose not to purchase a MagicBand, you can use the Key to the World Card given to you when you arrive at your Disney Resort hotel for the same functions and features as the MagicBand.
