Hi there, Christine!
Welcome to planDisney! You have some seriously great timing because
Magic Key passes just went on sale again today! So let's hustle and get you an answer so you can plan your next year of fun.
You described exactly what I would recommend! When you purchase a new Magic Key the
terms and conditions state that you have one year to activate the pass (by entering a theme park or the parking structure). So you can absolutely buy a new key today and wait a few months to activate it. I want you to get every magical minute out of your pass!
If you're able to buy a new key today then I'd just let your current one expire as planned. Renewing Magic Keys starts from the date your original pass would expire, so you would have a couple of months go by without being able to visit. That's not magical at all!
Check out the
Magic Key Buying Guide for the latest tips to purchase your new pass. As a current Magic Key holder you probably already know what to do, but it's a great resource if you have more questions!
I just checked and as I write this response all Magic Key types are still available. I hope that means you're able to get a new key, Christine! Wishing you a year full of fun at the parks!
Keep moving forward!
Amanda
