Hiya Jordynn,
Welcome to planDisney! What a great time to be visiting
Walt Disney World Resort. Not only should you get a break from the summer heat, you will still be able to enjoy all the amazing adventures associated with
The World's Most Magical Celebration! If that wasn't enough - it is
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. I am not sure if you know, but this year is the marathon's 30th anniversary, so Disney has pulled out the time machine and is taking everyone back to the 90's to relive the past years of
runDisney. It sounds like a fun weekend for the runners as well as the spectators.
Now, I have to admit, I am not a runner. I have tried (I tried even harder when my
planDisney family figured out that the runDisney events were the perfect time for all of us to gather back at Walt Disney World and spend time together) but my two left feet and I were not meant for the thrills of racing. I have walked some pretty great runDisney 5K events however, and I can see why the races are so popular. Who wouldn't love to run your way through the theme parks and Disney roads with bands, fans and beloved Disney characters cheering you on?
Unfortunately, the 2023 Disney marathon events are completely sold out. I just checked again hoping I could spread some pixie dust, but my wand was empty. While I know it may not be what you were hoping for, you could still take part in the marathon in a very important way - as a spectator and chEAR supporter. If you are a runner, you know how hard some of the miles can be when the energy tank approaches empty. I have had a number of my runner friends tell me that having me there with my funny signs, shiny pom-poms and smiling face has made a huge difference, and I am positive I had as much fun as they did (with less muscle aches) cheering everyone on. There are great places, both inside and outside the theme parks, for you and your enthusiastic cheers.
If you had your heart set on running, you may could check with a
runDisney participating charity and see if they have any spots open. You would need to follow whatever fundraiser requirements they have in place, but they may still have bibs available for additional team members. One last option is to participate in the
Virtual Walt Disney World marathon. You could register to run the race virtually from a course that you choose. Since you will be at Disney World during the race, you would need to make sure your path did not cross the actual race route, but I am sure you could map out a route that would work.
I hope one of these options helps get you "on track" for the marathon festivities. One last thought, if you would like to participate in future runDisney events, you may want to look in to Club runDisney. Members receive a number of special perks and rewards of which one is the opportunity to register for the extremely popular runDisney events before the general public. Now run like the wind Bullseye and if you have any additional planning questions, I hope you will
stop back to see me.
With pixie dust,
Margaret
