Tricia from TN Asked Note: This answer was provided prior to the change to planDisney and may still contain references to Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I want to participate in the Castaway Cay 5K and wanted to know how to plan for the day. Once on the island for the 5K am I there for the day? Do I pack a bag (swimsuit, etc)? Or would I be able to go back to the boat to catch up with other family members

    Ahoy, Tricia!

Thank you for cruising over to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question! I'm always excited to answer a question about Disney Castaway Cay because it is one of my most favorite places on this Earth! I'm thrilled you get to visit this tropical island paradise on your upcoming vacation with Disney Cruise Line.

Tricia, I'd love to fill you in on what to expect when you participate in the Castaway Cay 5K. First, you do have the option to stay on the island or return to the ship to change and meet up with the rest of your crew. If you decide to stay on the island, you can leave your non-valuables in a container near the starting line. It's not a far walk if you want to head back, or you can hop on the island's tram at the Pelican Point stop. This is one of the many perks to Disney's private island because everything is very convenient to the pier.

The run itself is along a flat course with a few water stops along the way, Tricia. It does get hot quickly, so be sure to stay hydrated. Once you finish, you'll be awarded a themed medal, which is a great keepsake along with your official runDisney bib. I don't want to forget to mention that you will have an opportunity to sign up for the run onboard at Guest Services

Thank you again for allowing us to help you with your magical plans. We hope you'll let us know if you think of anything else before the BIG day!
