Will the parks and hotels be super busy during the week of runDisney in April 2024? I'm considering booking 7 days (April 18-25) at Pop Century or Coronado Springs, but worried about road blocks and how busy the hotels will get. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Danica,

Thanks for visiting planDisney! I'm so happy that you stopped by to chat about your sunny April vacation. Since you are writing to us from Ontario in January, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are dreaming of that beautiful Florida sunshine as much as I am right now. Let's grab a mug of something warm, get cozy, and think through your perfect Disney plan!

I can completely understand your concern about visiting Walt Disney World Resort during runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend, but I hope that you can Embrace the Adventure. In my experience, runDisney events can make Walt Disney World Resort feel a little more snuggly than usual, but the very best kind of crowd! Runners, walkers, adoring spectators, friends, and family pack up and head to Florida to cheer each other on, chase dreams, and conquer goals. This is a very friendly, incredibly happy, possibly a little sore group of people. That kind of energy is contagious.

It might ease your worries a little to know that most runners wake long before the sun (runners often board Disney transportation before 3 am!) That means that they are often almost done once the theme parks open. If you are a bit of a late riser, you might only know about the special event because of the staged water and bathroom stations that you will pass strategically placed along the course. Well, that and all of the smiling folks walking around with amazing medals around their necks!

Since the events kick off so early, many participants head to sleep very early during a runDisney weekend. As a card-carrying member of "Team No Sleep" during my family's runDisney race-cations, I have found theme parks to have excellent crowd levels after sunset. You might consider that as you plan your Practically Perfect Disney Days.

If roads are a concern for you, I highly recommend that you use complimentary official Disney Transportation around Walt Disney World Resort. The friendly Cast Members driving the busses will have access to alternative routes and updated traffic information that will empower them to bring you to your destination easily and efficiently. All you need to do is sit back and relax!

Danica, this is a fantastic time to visit Walt Disney World Resort because runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend isn't the only special event happening. You can also "See What's Budding" at EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival. We love to check out the Garden Rocks Concert Series and the entertainment looks fantastic this year! Definitely plan to head to EPCOT hungry so that you are ready to enjoy the creative and delicious treats available at the various Outdoor Kitchens

I hope this helped you decide if racing down to Walt Disney World Resort in April is right for your family. Please come back and join us with any other questions. We are here to help!

    Wishing you many magical memories,

    Sally
