My parents are looking to do their 50th anniversary on a Disney cruise. They are looking into whether transatlantic and European cruises would be accessible for my father who is mobile but needs a scooter.

    Ahoy there, Heather!

I'm so happy to welcome you aboard planDisney! How absolutely magical that your parents are planning to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Disney Cruise Line! What an incredible way to honor such a special milestone. There's truly no better way to celebrate five decades of love and memories than surrounded by the magic, fun, and joy of a Disney cruise. I can only imagine how unforgettable this occasion will be for them!

Both a Transatlantic and a European cruise are fantastic options, each offering its own unique magic. I really love the pace of a Transatlantic cruise. It gives you plenty of relaxing days at sea to unwind, enjoy the ship's amenities, and truly soak in the journey. On the other hand, the itineraries for European cruises are absolutely incredible, packed with historic cities, breathtaking scenery, and cultural experiences that make every port stop memorable. Either choice promises an amazing adventure filled with memories that will last a lifetime.

Speaking from personal experience as a wheelchair user, I can wholeheartedly say that every ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet is incredibly accommodating for mobility devices. I would highly recommend booking an accessible stateroom, as it provides extra space to move around comfortably and ensures that a scooter can fit inside the room. Without an accessible stateroom, the scooter would need to be parked in the hallway to charge when not in use, since it wouldn't fit inside a standard room.

Disney Cruise Line also offers a wide variety of Accessible Port Adventures specifically designed for Guests with limited mobility. These excursions include features such as accessible vehicles, minimal or no stairs, easy-to-navigate paths, and other thoughtful accommodations to ensure everyone can enjoy the experience comfortably and safely.

A great resource to check out is the Information for Guests with Disabilities or Medical Conditions booklet, which goes over all the services available onboard. Another helpful step is to fill out the online Special Services Information Form at least 60 days before your cruise. Once Disney Cruise Line receives your form, their Special Services team reviews each request individually and lets you know the best way they can accommodate your needs.

You're also more than welcome to talk through the details of your trip directly with the Disney Cruise Line Special Services team, either by phone or email. They're super helpful and can answer any questions you might have.

Heather, I know that's a lot of information to take in, but I hope it's helpful as you continue planning your parents' special anniversary cruise! If any other questions come up along the way, don't hesitate to drop by planDisney again...we're always happy to help.

    SEAS the day,
