Hi! Parents, grandparents, son 6 and daughter 9. 5 nights at a WDW resort. Can’t decide: AKL in separate regular rooms or 2 bedroom villa at OKW. Will spend 1-2 days at resort. Thanks 4 your help!

    Hi there, Laurie!

I am a sucker for Disney's Old Key West Resort, and I love having a vacation where the whole family is together. Think about what's personal to your family, and consider the list.

The villas at Old Key West are going to give you a washer and dryer, plus a full kitchen. You may not ever need either, but just the convenience of having at least the full kitchen is fantastic. It lets you keep snacks and drinks for the evenings in your room, a place to store leftovers of a great meal, a chance to have a bottle of wine chilling for when everyone else has gone to bed, and you just want to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the quiet. We also like having some breakfast food in there. When we travel, there are usually at least five or six of us, and having the ability to get some breakfast in while others are showering is a great time saver in the morning.

On the other hand, if privacy is something you really value, it can be a benefit to have separate spaces. I never had any trouble traveling with my own parents, but felt with my husband's folks, I liked having a space to call my own at the end of the day. Sometimes, a little togetherness is all you need.

I really love Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I can't say enough good things about being able to see the animals. Having said that, you just get so much room and all the comforts of home at Old Key West. It would be my choice every time.

    Happy planning, Laurie!
