Parents are going on cruise with us. On Castaway Cay we want to be sure to have some shade. They would like to be able to watch grandchildren. Are there plenty of umbrellas on beach or should we rent cabana? How far off beach are cabanas?

Hi again, Kimberly! My family loves Castaway Cay. In fact, it's one of our favorite places in the world, and once you are there you will see why! With so much to do as well as beautiful spaces in which to do absolutely nothing but relax, there is truly no place else like it!

Our family has never rented a cabana before, however I have seen them and they are certainly very nice, and though they are at the far end of Family Beach, they are within walking distance to all the fun on the island and have their own private beach area too! If you are interested in renting one, you can do so when your window for online check-in begins at 75 days prior to sailing for first-time cruisers. However, with a limited amount of cabanas and many guests who love to rent them, they go very quickly, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were all booked before you check-in online since Castaway Club members (those who have cruised with Disney before) are able to book earlier than first-time guests.

That being said, there is plenty of space on the beach to spread out and enjoy a wonderful day. Many spots have umbrellas or are under trees providing shade. If you head off the ship first thing in the morning, you shouldn't have a problem getting a nice shady spot. I'd suggest staying on the tram until the second Family Beach stop, as many guests tend to hop right off at the first Family Beach stop, not realizing that they can continue to the other half of Family Beach that tends to be less crowded. We've never had trouble finding a shady spot on the beach, Kimberly, even when we were on a sold-out sailing on the Dream, so as long as you head off that morning, you should be fine!

I hope that helps as you continue to plan. Again, feel free to stop back with other questions for me, as I'm happy to help!
