Hello, panelists! My daughter is starting to enjoy pin trading. Do you have any tips or advice for her? Thank you so much!

    Hi Adrianna,

I also love pin trading. My children and I have amassed quite a collection over the years through buying and trading all over Walt Disney World. It is a fun way to interact with other guests and cast members throughout the day!

I highly recommend getting either a small pin trading purse or lanyard to cart your pins around with you throughout the day so your intent to trade is on full display. This will encourage other guests to ask you to trade in lines or as you walk through the theme parks. If your daughter is a little shy and does not want to go up to random people to trade, the best place to trade is at each of the checkout areas in shops throughout the theme parks and resorts. Most locations that have a stationary cashier will have a pin trading board on display with an array of pins to choose from. Cast members throughout the parks will also have pins available for trade and she can feel comfortable asking them as she passes through a line or sees them in a shop.

I recommend not putting your favorite pins on display for trading and instead choosing a good 5-10 pins that you are willing to give up to put in your pin purse or on your lanyard. The earlier you trade in the day, the more likely you are to get pins that have just been put out instead of ones that someone else was willing to trade. This normally leads to finding something extra special! I like to stop by the front desk at the hotel and trade first thing on my way out to theme parks to grab some cool options that they have just put out for trade.

We have also used our kids' love of pin trading and collecting as a way to encourage them to try new rides that they may be a little hesitant about. Collecting the ride-themed pin for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror was just the little push they needed to hop on and enjoy the ride. It is also a great souvenir to remember the first time you ever rode an iconic ride.

I also think that investing in a pin board for your house is a fun way to display and relive all of the memories you made on your Disney World vacations throughout the years. I love the one I got from The Disney Store because it isn't too big and can sit on your desk. We also made a pin board as a craft project one year and it was a blast.

    Happy Trading,
    Jenna
