Hi panel!! We are leaving for DW in about a month 7 days at ASM and have purchased tickets and DDP. We have 2 girls 3 & 7 and want to make sure they have spending money to get whatever they want (within reason). How much would you suggest we bring?

    Hi Lyndi,

It sounds like you have a fantastic Disney World vacation planned, and not much longer now!

I laugh as I write this answer as this has been an ongoing conversation amongst many of my fellow Moms, as to the proper amount of spending money for the kids. Some of my fellow panelists set daily limits, and I have heard about every dollar amount from $5-50 per day per child. If you were to use this formula you could be talking about anything from $35 per child for the week, up to $350.

I have found what works best for my three boys is to start a piggy bank prior to our trip, with an initial amount. Typically it is around $50 to $100 per child for the week. We then give them the opportunity to earn additional spending money by helping around the house, doing good deeds or getting great grades as examples.

No matter how much spending money we give our boys, they always seem to want more than they can afford, so this has been a great lesson in making good decisions and being responsible with their money. Something that has worked well for us is to allow them to "window shop" the first few days with minimal purchases allowed. Once they have had a chance to decide what they really want, then they can actually make their purchases.

    Happy shopping!
