Hello Mom's Panel! First thank you so much for all your advise. We went on our first trip to WDW last April in a group of 8 people. My husband and I are now planning our next trip and wanted to know are gratuities a set $ amount or do you decide yourself?

    Hi Debbie,

I'm so glad you enjoyed your first trip to Walt Disney World. Disney travel can be VERY addicting.

Although an 18% tip is customary, for the vast majority of Disney dining experiences, parties of fewer than six people can choose what level of gratuity to give their server. So if it's just you and your husband, you can decide on your own how much to tip. Parties of six or more will automatically have an 18% gratuity added to their bill. During your previous visit with eight people, you likely encountered this policy.

There are a handful of dining experiences where the gratuity is added for all diners. These include Cinderella's Castle and the dinner shows.

There is an in-depth article about tipping at Walt Disney World on the independent website DisneyFoodBlog.com. Look there under the "Disney Dining FAQ" tab on the home page.

Good luck with your planning and please let us know if you have additional questions.
