Hello moms panel! My fiance and I are trying to plan details for our mid Dec. trip to WDW and we are so excited! With his severe PTSD and a bullet still in his leg, what tips would you recommend to make things more enjoyable? Thank you so much!

    Hi Rachel,

Thank you to your fiance for his service and to you for your sacrifices. First let me say that I am not a medical professional, so your fiance should certainly consult with his own doctors and counselors for advice about traveling with his conditions.

As for an injured leg, Walt Disney World does have wheelchairs and ECVs for rent in the parks. There are also numerous independent mobility rental agencies in the Orlando area, buenavistascooters.com is a reputable one. The independent wheelchairs and ECVs can be used outside the parks at your resort or Downtown Disney as well as in the theme parks. Depending on your fiance's movement ability, this may make more sense for you.

You may want to stop by the Guest Relations office at one of the theme parks and explain the PTSD to a cast member there. They may be able to provide a Guest Assistance Card which would allow him to wait in quieter areas for some attractions. While a doctor's note is not required for this, it can sometimes be helpful.

I'm not sure what might trigger PTSD issues for your fiance. There are many attractions at Walt Disney World which are quite stimulating, with flashing lights, loud noises, or surprising sights. There are a few attractions, including the Jungle Cruise and the Great Movie Ride, where fake gunshots are part of the attraction. You can watch video footage of most WDW attractions on YouTube to see if these things might be cause for concern. Also, if you let us know what your fiance's specific challenges are, we might be able to help guide you to attractions which avoid these things.

Again, thank you both for your service to country. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
