What should I pack for a 5-night cruise to the Bahamas in October on board the magic? I’m a female senior traveling with my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

    Hi there, Piper!

It sounds like you're the official Fairy Godmother in your family, how fun! Disney Cruises are great vacations for extended families because there's such a great variety of activities. You're going to love it!

The Disney Cruise Line website has some great packing lists (sorted by destination) to help you make sure you are well-equipped for your voyage. You'll want to keep a carry-on bag with you as you board so you have your essentials like travel documents and medications close by because your larger luggage will find its own way to your stateroom later. Having sailed your same itinerary, I would recommend:

    • Plenty of "cruise casual" basics like tees, skirts, and sundresses. I don't love jeans on a cruise personally, but plenty of people wear them. I prefer some breezy linen pants or similar light bottoms.
    • Two swimming suits, because we play in the ocean and pools often and no one likes wiggling into a damp suit that hasn't had a chance to fully dry.
    • A light, neutral sweater to wear at dinner or in the theaters if it's chilly.
    • Comfortable sandals to wear around the ship and sturdy sandals or sneakers for Port Adventures.
    • Accessories to beat the heat, especially sunglasses, a wide-brim packable hat, and a swim cover-up that protects against the sun. Don't forget the sunscreen!
    • Because I'm chronically over-prepared, I also like to bring pain relievers, bandages (waterproof ones), and some medication for seasickness.
    • One dressier outfit for the optional dress-up night or dining at Palo
    • Costumes or accessories for pirate night, if that's part of your cruise!
Knowing what to pack is important, but so is knowing what NOT to pack. Take a look at the prohibited and restricted items to make sure you don't have any surprises on embarkation day!

You are going to love sailing on the Disney Magic with your family! A great activity for a big group is enjoying the shows in the Walt Disney Theater in the evenings. The Disney Magic just happens to have one of my favorites...Tangled: The Musical! The whole show is great, but I'd bet that Maximus will steal the show. He usually does!

Happy planning, Piper! Wishing for smooth seas and plenty of fun for your family.

    Keep moving forward!
