Cannonball! Welcome to planDisney, Karen. It looks like your
Walt Disney World Resort visit is underway, so let's do the backstroke to learn about your Disney Resort hotel's policies on swimming in the rain.
I'm happy to let you know that the
resort pools typically remain open on rainy days, and my son absolutely loved swimming when the heavens opened. I think his attitude was that he could only get so wet! My tip is to ask about specific policies at the
front desk at your resort, or feel free to check with a lifeguard at the pool.
The one weather event that will close the pools is lightning, so if the staff gets a report of lightning in the area, guests will be asked to leave the pool area immediately. Even if there's no rain, any report of a lightning strike within a designated radius will automatically close the pool and outdoor bar areas. This policy exists to keep everyone safe, so please follow all instructions and requests from Cast Members. I know it's not fun to cut short a splashtacular time, but the area will reopen as soon as the lifeguards get the all-clear.
My final tip is to snap a photo of the Recreational Activities board, often located in your resort lobby or pool area. This schedule lists many family-friendly activities, such as crafts and games. This information can be beneficial when other plans, like dog paddling across the pool, are postponed. On a recent visit, I saw kids of all ages making tie-dye tees at
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, and customizing tumblers was coming up next. Some of these offerings have a fee, while others, like trivia or dance parties, are often complimentary.
Karen, I'm watching this week's weather, too. My family owns a home in the Orlando area, so I'm wishing on a star for both of us that the predicted storms aren't too bad. Watch your mobile app or the website for
weather-related updates, cancellations, and procedures. You can also learn about
Hurricane policies if you need to reschedule any activities. Please stay safe, and stop by
planDisney anytime.
Magic awaits,
Elaine
