Welcome back to planDisney, Ali!
Liberty Tree Tavern is truly a
revolutionary dining experience, steeped in history and hearty fare. Did you know it opened its doors on October 1, 1971, the very same day as Magic Kingdom Park? Its namesake, the Liberty Tree, is an actual 100-year-old oak that was transplanted to the property, with a younger oak grafted into the base. From its branches hang 13 lanterns representing the original colonies. Talk about
rooted in history!
While this tavern once offered an à la carte lunch menu, it now serves an all-you-care-to-enjoy family-style feast for both lunch and dinner. This includes all the Thanksgiving trimmings your heart desires. But the real star of the show is dessert: the iconic Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake! It’s a warm, chewy treat reminiscent of a soft chocolate chip cookie, topped with candy toffee bar chunks, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and chocolate sauce. I completely understand your wish to go back in time and savor it with your dad, since it’s truly a dessert worth saving room for.
Although à la carte options are no longer available at Liberty Tree Tavern, I wholeheartedly recommend making a reservation on your next trip, skipping that extra helping of pot roast, and heading straight for the grand finale. The cake alone is worth the price of admission!
If you’re looking to sweeten your upcoming vacation with some other desserts, here are a few indulgent options with a similar flavor profile:
• ‘Ohana Bread Pudding: This decadent dessert is part of the all-you-care-to-enjoy meal at ‘Ohana in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Occasionally, you can find it at
Tambu Lounge (ask your server and hope for a sprinkle of pixie dust!).
• Sticky Toffee Pudding: Available à la carte at the
Rose & Crown Dining Room in EPCOT’s United Kingdom Pavilion, this classic dessert is a must-try.
• Jack-Jack’s Num Num Cookie: Found at
Neighborhood Bakery in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this oversized cookie is warm, gooey, and packed with chocolate chunks—an
Incredible treat!
Ali, I hope your next visit to Walt Disney World is filled with sweet moments and magical memories. Don’t forget to leave a little room for dessert. It’s the icing on the cake!
