If I use online check-in, do I have to pre-purchase my park tickets? I haven't decided on hopper option and wonder if I may add park tickets to my key to the world card at the resort's online check-in desk.

Online check-in and the purchase of park tickets are unrelated. You may use Disney's online resort check-in service no matter what type of park tickets you have or even if you have no park tickets.

You are welcome to upgrade your basic park tickets to Park Hoppers at any time during your stay. You can do this at the lobby concierge or guest relations desk at your hotel, or at any theme park ticket window or guest relations desk. This transaction will only take a minute or two. However, an upgrade to Park Hoppers can not be handled at the online check-in area at the hotel.
