Ahoy, Melissa!
An amazing vacation is coming your way next month on the newly reimagined Disney Wonder! Before you know it, the natural beauty of the Last Frontier will surround you as the ship cruises up the Inside Passage. When I sailed this itinerary, I loved soaking in the breathtaking scenery and searching for wildlife on the outside decks as much as possible. I was camera ready at all times and was able to video and take pictures of whales, seals and dolphins from the ship! It was simply awesome.
I know it can be tough to pick your
Port Adventures for an Alaskan Cruise because there are so many fabulous options. I have found that it helps to figure out what best interests your family, what works well with your budget and if your crew meets the age requirement. It's also important to take into consideration the ages of your children and duration of the excursion so they stay engaged the entire time.
Is your family active? Do you want to see wildlife up-close? What mode of transportation intrigues you the most (train, boat, floatplane, helicopter)? Are you interested in history and culture? How interactive do you want the excursion to be? What type of scenery interests you the most? After you have answered these questions, start looking at adventures that fit your crew's responses best. Some you may what to consider are the All Aboard Steam Train or the Musher's Camp and Sled Dog Experience in Skagway, Amazing Fjords by Floatplane or the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour in Ketchikan or a whale watching or helicopter tour to a glacier in Juneau. There are too many to list, but I honestly don't think you can go wrong. You'll also be happy to know all the ports are close to the pier and very walkable. Be sure to get off and explore because all three are quite unique!
Good luck with your decision, Melissa!
