Hi Sheila!
Welcome to planDisney! My family loves our
MagicBands. We order new ones for almost every trip just because it is part of the fun and excitement of planning our next vacation. We have so many, we actually use them to decorate our Disney-themed Christmas tree in our TV room!
While we enjoy getting new MagicBands for each trip, we also bring multiple styles for each person on our trips, because older MagicBands do work for quite some time. My boys have Star Wars themed MagicBands for our trips to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and I always wear my Figment MagicBand to Epcot.
The official statement is that MagicBands work for at least 2 years. The main issue is if the battery is still strong. I feel that since your MagicBands are just around that 2-year mark, it is very likely they will work just fine for your May visit. If the battery power is getting low, they will still usually work to open your room door and access the theme parks. The main issue you might see would be that on-ride photography may not show up in your My Disney Experience Account. If you did have that issue, visit any
PhotoPass desk and they should be able to help you locate and link missing photos.
Also, just this week, Disney has introduced the new
MagicMobile service. If you have Apple devices such as an iPhone or iWatch, you can also access your theme park tickets from your smart device with MagicMobile! Make sure you download the newest version of My Disney Experience on your mobile device to be able to use this exciting new feature.
I hope this helps to answer your question. Wishing you a wonderful visit to the
Most Magical Place on Earth this May, Sheila!
