Hi Diana, and welcome to planDisney. Your dedication to recycling would make WALL-E proud! So let’s chat about your options for proper disposal of your old
MagicBands.
I chatted with a Cast Member who confirmed that there’s not an official MagicBand recycling program. However, in the past, sometimes
Guest Relations or the front desk at
Disney Resort hotels would take MagicBands to recycle. So, if you don’t mind bringing your old bands along on your next trip, you can check to see if they’re accepting MagicBands for recycling.
Generally, it’s not recommended to throw out rechargeable batteries in the regular trash, so I’d check your state’s government website for guidelines on recycling and proper disposal. I’ve also found the Call2Recycle website helpful for getting a quick overview of different state laws and locating nearby recycling drop-off locations.
Before you dispose of your old MagicBands, be sure to deactivate them on the Disney World website. On the
MagicBands and Cards page, scroll down to Manage MagicBands or Cards and click the triangle next to your profile to see all of your active MagicBands. Find the band you no longer want and click Deactivate.
I’ve also seen some really creative ways to reuse old MagicBands, like linking them to create a Christmas tree garland, sticking them in a clear vase (or even one of those lamps with a clear base), or putting them around a wire wreath form to make a MagicBand wreath!
I hope this helps you figure out what to do with your old bands. And if you have any other questions, we’d love to have you back at planDisney!
