Hi! We have old Magic Bands from our last trip in 2015. Can we still use those bands or do you recommend upgrading to the new style of bands. Thanks!

    Hi Michael,

I see that your trip is just a few weeks away and I bet you're getting excited to return to the Walt Disney World Resort for another magical vacation! So fun!

While MagicBands are reusable, their batteries are only estimated to last for around two years. You are certainly welcome to try your current MagicBands to see if they will still work, but I'd encourage you to bring your admission cards with you, too, just in case they don't. If your old MagicBands don't work or you'd simply like to upgrade to the new style, you'll find MagicBands for sale at retail shops all around the Walt Disney World Resort and can easily purchase new ones when you arrive. The great thing about the new style is that the center puck, which is where the RFID chip is located, is actually removable. If you find a specialty MagicBand that you absolutely love, you'll be able to use it for many years to come by simply replacing the center puck with a valid one from a new MagicBand that you've either purchased or received as a Guest at a Disney Resort hotel. There's no data stored on the MagicBands themselves; they simply link back to the data stored in your My Disney Experience account, so feel free to use any valid and active MagicBand that you'd like!

Thanks so much for visiting us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Michael, and please let us know if you have any other questions as you're planning your trip. I hope that you have a truly magical vacation!
