ok so we are planning a trip for next April. I am wondering if becoming a pass holder would be cheaper than purchasing our tickets and hotels. I have heard pass holders get a room discount. Would my discount on my room off set the cost of the pass?

Hi, Lynda!  I have been an annual passholder for many years, and the one thing I always tell people about purchasing one is not to purchase it for the discounts.

I have had the opportunity to take advantage of some amazing offers as a passholder, including up to 40% off on resort accommodations.  However, you are never guaranteed a special offer will be available when you want to travel.  The discount is not automatic just because you have an annual pass.  There will be select dates and resorts that may offer the discount throughout the year.

The thing that offsets the cost of the annual pass is to utilize it as often as you can.  If you travel to Walt Disney World each year, plan your trip next year so that it is inside the window before your annual pass expires.  You may luck into a resort room discount, but it doesn't take too many days to break even with the annual pass anyway, so you may do that in two trips.  I also find that having the pass allows me to make quick weekend trips to things like the International Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT or a trip to see the holiday decorations.

I hope that helps you to make the decision that works best for your family!
