    Is it OK to take pictures while you're on rides like Pirates of the Caribean, It's a Small World, etc. Can you use your flash?

    This is a surprisingly difficult question. Many of the show-type attractions at WDW (Finding Nemo, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, PhilharMagic, even the Carousel of Progress) prohibit photography. While at most of the non-show attractions, photography is perfectly fine. If there is a ban on photos, this will always be very clearly stated at the start of the experience. If you don't hear about a photography ban, then go ahead and snap away. It is perfectly acceptable to take photos on both Pirates of the Caribbean and Small World. I've done it myself several times.

    It's the flash part of your question that's more tricky. To the best of my knowledge, there are no statements at any WDW attraction that say it's OK to take photos, but it's not OK to take flash photos. If photography is allowed, then it is technically permissable to use a flash. I've taken plenty of flash photos on Pirates and Small World. This was perfectly allowed. However, since I've taken those flash photos of audioanimatronic Jack Sparrow, I've had a bit of a change of heart. I've now heard many hosts and guests of Disney-related podcasts complain about flash photography on rides. The feeling is that if you are there to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a dark ride, then bright flashes mar the experience. I do see their point. If I'm a first time guest there to see Pirates, maybe I just want to lose myself in the ride rather than being distracted by bright lights. So my suggest would be to try to keep the flashing to a minimum if you can.

    Ack, I just re-read my last paragraph and am now second-guessing the second sentence. It may be the case that the Haunted Mansion allowed photos but not flash photos. In any event, ALL rules about photos will be clearly announced at the beginning of the attraction.
