Ok, we are fixing to become DVC members, but can't decide which home resort to choose and how many points to buy. I was hoping that you all could help me out. It is me, my husband, and our 2 sons.

    Hi Erica,

I hope to be saying Welcome Home to you and your family in the near future!

As for resorts left to purchase a membership in you have Aulani, Bay Lake Towers, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Saratoga Springs Resorts. I own Boardwalk and Saratoga Springs. I use my Saratoga to help with my other vacations especially since I work at an airline and I take frequent trips to Florida.

When looking at the options, I would look at maintenance fees and points for booking a room for starters. Lower maintenance fees help keep your costs down. Next, I would look at locations. Bay Lake Towers is a great location with easy access to two parks. Animal Kingdom is cool because of the animals but it is further away from the action as is Saratoga Springs. In reality, your home resort allows you to book your vacation starting at 11 months out versus seven months out at the other resorts. Except for the peak periods, most requests can be booked seven months out or less.

As for the number of points to purchase, unless you can only take vacation during the peak periods, the 160 point minimum will allow you a week in a studio most of the year. You may want to add some additional points if you think you would prefer a one bedroom or may be adding to your family or you take more than one vacation a year at Walt Disney World.

I recommend you speak to a vacation guide again with Disney Vacation Club at 877-382-7826 or visit the website.

    Wishing you a magical day!
