How often are chemicals put in the pools at the resorts? Our granddaughter is allergic to chlorine and really wants to swim when we stay at Bay Towers in May. Do we know what chemicals they use - can we find out? Are any of the pools salt water?

Hi, Deborah!  I've just spoken to someone at Bay Lake Tower, and we had a very informative chat about the pools at the resort.  They are currently using Bromine to keep the pools clean and sparkly, so you are somewhat clear on the chlorine end of things.  The pool chemicals are monitored frequently, and the chemical levels are adjusted as needed to make sure the pools are safe with regard to hygiene.

Check with your granddaughter's physician to see how she might react in the bromine swimming pool.  I do know of someone with a bromine allergy, but with mild symptoms, she prefers to just deal with the consequences of swimming in a bromine sanitized pool.  You may be able to test in some way to see if your granddaughter has a reaction before you come, then you can determine whether or not it's safe for her to use the pool.

None of the pools are salt water pools.  I have been told that Storm Along Bay at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts uses a salt water filtration system, but you need to be careful with those.  Those types of systems are meant to break down the salt so that it more naturally chlorinates the pool.  You might still be dealing with an allergen in that case.

    I hope this helps!
