Welcome back, Jodi!
I always recommend booking a
Port Adventure through Disney Cruise Line. These can be booked during your online check-in, beginning 75 days prior to sailing. When you're in a foreign port of call with your family, it's nice to know that Disney has done their research and can provide you with a fabulous day, so you just show up and enjoy!
Guests who have not booked Port Adventures are welcome to disembark the ship throughout the day as well. Many of the islands have beaches not far from the cruise port that are free to enjoy, but you may end up paying for chair rental and other extras which are included when you book through Disney. Should you want to adventure out of your own, there are always taxis outside the cruise port area that are happy to take you wherever you'd like on the islands. Just be sure you leave plenty of time to return to the ship, and add extra time for unforeseen traffic. For example, in St. Thomas, you could take a taxi to Magen's Bay, which is one of the most beautiful beaches! But, if you want Disney to take care of all of the details, simply book the
Magen's Bay Beach Break, which includes your chairs, towels, waters, a wonderful narrated tour, and a stop at Drake's Seat which is where you'll see a gorgeous view of the island, before heading to the beach for the rest of the day. There are food stands nearby for lunch as well. And with Disney's adventures, you won't need to worry about missing the ship, as they're in contact with the ship should they be running late.
I promise you that your best beach day will be at Castaway Cay, where you'll simply walk right off the ship onto Disney's private island! You may consider trying some other non-beach day adventures while exploring the other ports!
Have fun planning, Jodi!
