Hi there Gina, I'm glad to welcome you to planDisney!
As someone who has several tattoos myself like so many others who were born on islands in the Pacific, I was delighted to see so many characters in Moana like Maui whose story was told via the tapestry on his skin and see tattoos celebrated on screen. It wasn't so long ago when
Disney's Cast Members were welcome to have visible tattoos as a sign of the ever-evolving times and the updates to "Disney Look" that definitely would've gotten me into a bit of trouble in the past as a Cast Member! Now while things have definitely changed in this Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow that we live in, it certainly hasn't changed as far as guests being able to get their skin permanently inked in
Magic Kingdom Park.
With so many alluring rumors swirling around the internet, it's easy to get trapped! I've personally come across this particular story and confirmed with a Guest Relations Cast Member that it is "100% Fake" (to directly quote the source that originated it); there is no tattoo shop replacing the
Harmony Barber Shop. In fact, if you carefully read and look closely at the original source article it states that it is a "totally made-up story", and unfortunately less-discerning Disney fans around the world will continue sharing and spreading misinformation while missing this detail completely. You could say that trolls exist even beyond the lands of Arendelle, who seek to prey on the gullible and easily ill-informed! Whenever you encounter any news on social media or fan websites, it's always important to confirm with official sources like the
Disney Parks Blog,
Disney Parks websites and even
reaching out to planDisney Panelists who tackle these rumors on a regular basis like you are now!
Now it's important to note that over the years, Walt Disney World Resort guests have been able to get themselves tattooed in the Theme Parks - albeit temporarily -
at locations found at Disney's Animal Kingdom or the Morocco Pavilion in EPCOT World Showcase. Today you might be able to be freshly adorned with a temporary airbrush or henna tattoo at a
Face Painting Kiosk by Enjoy Your Face located in Disney Springs during your upcoming visit! In the meantime, I'd definitely look into getting a tattoo closer to home so that you can stay on top of the aftercare without compromising on your vacation time and avoid experiencing what it's like riding Theme Park attractions while recovering from a fresh tattoo!
And as Maui says: You're Welcome!
Prince
