Oct we are planning on staying at the Contemporary. My kids (12 & 8) viewed it online & loved it. But your whole panel seems to put it last on your list of Deluxe hotels. Now I'm not so sure. What's not to like about this hotel and kids there?

    Alaine,

What's not to like?  It's got a convenient location, beautiful views, good restaurants, the cool factor of the monorail running right through it, and the historical significance of being the original Disney resort.  And the rooms have just been refurbished, so it's nearly new!  So for me personally it's not that there's anything wrong with the Contemporary, it's just that there's so much right with the other deluxe resorts.

I have three favorite resorts on Disney property and they are (in no particular order) the Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Beach Club.  At first glance the three have nothing in common so it seems an odd combination, but the connecting thread for me is the extensive themeing you'll find at each.  I'm drawn in by the feel, the sights and the smells, and I feel completely immersed and transported when I enter any of those resorts.  And the pools are all extensively themed and beautiful!  While the Contemporary is nice, it doesn't have the same ambience for me.

That said, the Contemporary has a large group of devoted fans.  It is a Disney classic and there are many people who wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.  There is a fantastic arcade here which your kids would enjoy, and we really like the newly remodeled gift shop.  Chef Mickey's is a must-do character meal for my family, and the California Grill offers superb food and amazing castle views.  There's definitely a lot to love, and it all comes down to a matter of personal preference.

Ultimately I think you should stay wherever your children and you are most excited about, and if that's the Contemporary then go for it and don't look back.  You know your family better than anyone else, and it could be that you'll stay there once and become one of those Contemporary devotees!
