Hi there moms! We are going in November, the week before thanksgiving on the cruise ship fantasy. I wanna know do I need all the stuff you see on etsy, ( light cards, spot savers, fish extender.). This is our first cruise ever and I'm so lost on what to do

Hi again, Lauren! It's amazing how much "stuff" is out there and available for guests who set sail with Disney! I love some of those ideas, however, just know that not one of those things is necessary at all. If you have extra cash to purchase some of those, go for it. You'll have lots of fun and they certainly are useful, but not at all necessary to enjoy your cruise.

We did participate in the Fish Extender exchanges through an online Disney cruise fan site when we sailed the first few times and the kids thought it was great. But, we don't do it on most of our cruises anymore because we have so much else already provided on the ship to enjoy and experience. If you can still join the Fish Extender exchange, it really is a lot of fun but again, not necessary. These little "secret Santa" type exchanges are not sponsored by Disney, but organized on fan sites by guests themselves, and many guests in the exchanges purchase a Fish Extender hanger on Etsy.

Reading your question was the first time I've heard of the light cards and spot savers. I had to look those up to see what they were! Brilliant ideas, for sure, but I assure you, my family has sailed many times with Disney Cruise Line and we've enjoyed magical vacation after magical vacation without all those extras. We've simply used our Key To The World Card in the light slot, as it was designed, and had our personal beach bags on our beach chairs that were obviously recognizable as ours.

If you can afford and really want to purchase those, go for it! But if not, all you really need to do is complete your online check-in, where you'll also be able to book any Port Adventures or Adult Exclusive Dining, and you'll be all set. Once onboard, you'll receive a Personal Navigator each day, with a schedule of events and activities for the day. Bring a different colored highlighter for each family member to highlight their favorites and off you go!

    Have fun planning, Lauren!
