I've noticed the last several years when WDW offers the free dining plan in the fall, they skip the 3rd week in October. Why is that? We are looking at coming mid October 2013. It would be a great bonus to have the free dining? lol!

Hi, Jessica! There are so many wonderful things going on during October (like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties and Epcot's Food and Wine Festival), but I suspect the increase that week is due to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic golf tournament.  A field of 128 players will tee off October 20-23, 2011, at Disney's Magnolia and Palm golf courses. There will probably be an increase in the number of Guests over the normal October attendance (hence the reason Walt Disney World wouldn't need to offer a free Dining Plan to draw Guests that week), but I don't think the crowds will be summer or holiday level.  Free dining is a great perk if you can get it, so maybe you can adjust your travel dates to try and hit the window.  Happy planning and have a Magical vacation!
