We are going next week taking our 4yr old for the first time. First what are the crowds like Early to Mid-June (13-16)? Second any tips for avoiding the heat?

Hi Andrew! How exciting that your four-year-old's first trip to Walt Disney World is just a few days away! I'll be at Disney next week too, and part of the reason I planned my trip for mid-June is that the crowd levels tend to be lower then than they are in July and August. Park attendance in early to mid-June is usually at moderate levels. The parks won't be uncrowded, but you will not deal with the throngs of people that you'd experience when visiting on holidays or during Spring Break.

June at Walt Disney World can be quite hot, but you can avoid the heat in the same way that you can avoid the crowds. Visit the parks early in the day. If a park is offering morning Extra Magic Hours, plan to take advantage of them so you can be in the park before the heat and the rest of the crowds arrive. Each day plan to be at your park of choice before it opens so that you can be one of the first admitted. You'll be able to ride lots of attractions with little waiting in the morning, which lets you experience a lot of the park before the heat rises. As the temperatures start to go up, make sure you drink lots of water to stay hydrated. You can bring a small spritzer bottle of water to cool yourself off. (My kids love the fan misters sold at kiosks throughout the parks. They are pricey but do help keep you cool.) When the weather becomes hot at midday, and the crowds become thicker, have a nice lunch and then return to your resort to swim and rest.  Come back to the parks in the evening when things have cooled off. Take advantage of evening Extra Magic Hours -- the temperatures will be much more comfortable when the sun is down.

Have a magical vacation! Wave hi if you see me in the parks! If you have any last minute questions before your trip, come see me again at the Moms Panel! I'm happy to help!
