My DH and I are new DVC members and are planning a trip. We are going to book at our home resort and then at 7 months see if Bay Lake has availability. If they do, to book there do we have to cancel our reservation first to get points?

    Hiya Jessica!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. You didn't mention which Disney Vacation Club Resort is your Home Resort (and I'm sure it's fabulous, as they all are!). But, I completely understand the desire to try a new flavor of hotel, and Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort is a fantastic pick! The Resort is super convenient to Magic Kingdom Park; you can either walk or take the Monorail to all the fun.

When it's time to book Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, head to your Booking Page and reserve away! As long as you have enough points to maintain both reservations, there is no issue with having two concurrent reservations. You will need to make sure to cancel one of the bookings within the allotted timeframe to make sure you keep your unused points. As long as you cancel 31 days or more before your trip, your points will return to their Use Year. If it's less than 30 days, they will go into a Holding Account, and can only be used in the Use Year of the reservation.

Now, if you don't have enough points to cover both bookings, you can borrow points from your upcoming Use Year! It's a simple transaction, and your Member Dashboard will walk you through it when you are making your reservation. One thing to remember, if you borrow points from your 2021 Use Year (for example) to use for a 2020 vacation, if you cancel that trip, the borrowed points will stay in the 2020 Use Year.

Jessica, if you have any questions, or need help while booking, please don't hesitate to call Member Services at (800) 800-9800. ChEARs to your magical vacation!
