Hi there, Chelsea! Thanks for sending in another great question to planDisney!
It sounds like you’re planning a
reel-y magical time at
Disney’s Hollywood Studios later this summer! My fellow panelist, Keri, and I spent the day there just last week, and we made it a point to check out the two exciting new shows that debuted recently. I’m thrilled to share what we learned!
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is a “fin”-tastic new take on Ariel’s story, presented in its original location in Animation Courtyard. This updated version features live actors, large-scale puppets, and digital scenery that truly bring the undersea world to life! While Lightning Lane access is not available just yet, there is a sign posted at the entrance indicating that Lightning Lane access is coming soon, specifically through
Lightning Lane Multi Pass. The scanners and entrance are already in place, so we’re hopeful it’ll be active by the time of your visit. For now, guests can enjoy the show via the standby queue. We waited about 30 minutes both times we visited, mostly under shaded overhangs. The show runs for approximately 20 minutes and is offered every 40 minutes, so I recommend checking the My Disney Experience app for showtimes and joining the line at least 25 minutes early for your preferred time.
Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, located near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, does not currently offer Lightning Lane access, and as of now, no plans for it have been announced. This stage show is available through standby entry only and is offered multiple times a day. While the indoor theater seating is air-conditioned, the queue is mostly outdoors with limited shade, so I’d suggest lining up 25–30 minutes ahead of time, earlier in the morning while the temperatures are still comfortable. Also, check out the nearby villains-themed merchandise cart before you queue! There are some wickedly fun ears and spirit jerseys to help you channel your inner baddie.
This show is fun, upbeat, and interactive; it’s up to you (with a little help from the Magic Mirror) to decide whether the villains are Mischievous or Just Misunderstood. Don’t miss the nearby PhotoPass opportunity for a memorable villainous moment! And after all that excitement, head to
Hollywood Scoops for a cool treat. I highly recommend the Maleficent Cone, which comes with chocolate horns and butter pecan ice cream. It’s devilishly delicious!
I hope this helps you have a
blockbuster day, Chelsea! If you have more questions as you prepare for your visit, you know where to find us.
With magic,
Eean
