Hi Lisa! Welcome to planDisney. I’m so glad you reached out as you get ready for your holiday visit to the Disneyland Resort. Making sure your husband feels comfortable throughout the day is an important part of ensuring your trip is relaxed, enjoyable, and full of those little moments of magic that make a Disney day so memorable.
To start, the Disneyland Resort offers
both wheelchairs and Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs) for rent, and they’re very easy to access. The rental location is positioned just outside the entrances of
Disneyland and
Disney California Adventure, so you’ll pick up your mobility device before entering the turnstiles. At the end of the day, you’ll return it to that same location, which keeps everything simple and convenient. Rentals are first-come, first-served, and because quantities can run out (especially during busy times like the holiday season) I recommend arriving shortly before the parks open. It’s a great way to secure what you need while also enjoying those calm early-morning moments (which feel almost like a bonus attraction before the day even begins).
If your visit spans multiple days, or if you prefer having guaranteed access to a wheelchair or ECV throughout your entire stay, there’s another option that might fit even better. Guests staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels can rent through ScooterBug, an external provider that partners with the hotels. You can reserve your device ahead of time and arrange for it to be delivered to your hotel, ready and waiting when you arrive. This gives you the freedom to use it both inside the parks and around the hotel or Downtown Disney, and many Guests appreciate knowing they have the same device each day without needing to arrive early to secure one.
As you explore the parks, it can be helpful to plan intentional breaks so your husband can rest comfortably. Disneyland has some wonderful quiet corners if you’re looking for a peaceful pause. The shaded seating near Stage Door Café offers a relaxing view of the Rivers of America, while the little nook by Edelweiss Snacks in Fantasyland provides the (mostly) gentle sound of the Matterhorn waterfalls. At Disney California Adventure, the benches tucked near Grizzly River Run have a serene forest atmosphere that feels worlds away from the hustle of the park.
Finally, to answer your last question, no doctor’s note is required for any wheelchair or ECV rental at the Disneyland Resort.
Lisa, I hope this gives you confidence as you plan out your day. If you'd like help building a schedule or choosing attractions and experiences that match your pace, please feel free to visit us again at planDisney. We’re always happy to help.
Wishing you a smooth, comfortable, and joy-filled visit to the Happiest Place on Earth,
