Do I need to purchase a park ticket, in addition to the water park ticket for the one day I want to do both (I have the Hopper Ticket option)?

Hi Mike, The Disney Park Hopper tickets do not include admission to the water parks. To visit Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, you would either need to purchase the Water Park Fun & More add-on for your Hopper ticket, or purchase a single day water park admission ticket. The WPF option is a flat fee (prices can change, but currently about $55), regardless of how many park ticket days you have. This is about $10 more than a single-day water park ticket. The good news is that you get more with the WPF add-on. For example, if you have a five-day Park Hopper, you would be given five water park or DisneyQuest admissions for the one add-on fee. If you're going to a water park more than once, or if you'll also be visiting DisneyQuest, this is a much more cost effective option. Good luck with your planning.
