Hi Kimmy,
Welcome to planDisney! We are so happy that you have joined us with such an important question. Let's dive right in.
As long as your
Disney Cruise Line vacation is a "Closed loop," meaning that you depart from and return to the same US port, then US Citizens do not need a passport to board. Instead, you will be asked for an original or copy of a state-issued birth certificate and a physical state-issued photo ID for any Guests over the age of 15. For sailors aged 15 and younger, a photo ID is not required. Please note that your state-issued ID must be a physical copy. A digital ID will not be sufficient for your
required travel documentation.
With all that said, Kimmy,
it is a great idea to have a passport when you hop aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship. Not only does it streamline the identification process for you and your family, but it also opens up a whole world of opportunity! For example, if you need to return to the US by air instead of continuing with your magical cruise vacation, a passport would be required. In this circumstance, I think it's wise to take the extra step to get your passport before heading off for the of a lifetime.
It sounds like you are considering an itinerary with a visit to Mexico. Disney Cruise Line visits some incredible
Mexican Cruise Ports of Call and offers amazing excursion opportunities. You could
visit Mexican Wine Country on an adult-only wine tour in Ensenada,
practice yoga by the sea in Mazatlan, or even go
horseback riding and snorkeling on the same day in Puerto Vallarta. Whether you are seeking adventure, relaxation, or both, you will find it on a Disney Cruise Line Vacation. I'm so excited for you!
I hope this was helpful, Kimmy. Come on back and visit us with any other questions. We are here for you!
Adventure is out there,
Sally
