Hello, Maria! Welcome to
planDisney! Thanks for stopping by with your question about the required travel documentation when setting sail with
Disney Cruise Line. How exciting that you are planning to surprise your husband with a Disney cruise! What an incredible gift that would be!
While not all Disney cruise itineraries require you to travel with a passport, there are
benefits to doing so. A valid passport provides you and your family with approved identification for boarding the ship and prepares you to travel to any destination should the need arise. While unlikely, in the event of an emergency, you could fly home from the cruise from a foreign port if you have a passport with you.
Closed-loop cruises, meaning they begin and end at the same port in the United States and travel within the Western Hemisphere, do not require a passport. U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises will be able to enter or depart the country by presenting proof of citizenship and a picture ID. Proof of citizenship includes a government-issued birth certificate or passport. Guests 16 or older must present a government-issued driver's license, picture ID, denoting photo, name, and date of birth. You can read more about the required travel documentation for sailing with Disney Cruise Line here on the
Passports, Visas, and Citizen Documentation page.
I hope you can pull off this magical surprise for your husband and that you have an unforgettable time on board a Disney Cruise, Maria! If we can help answer more of your questions, or you need further assistance as you plan, please return here to planDisney! We are always happy to set sail in search of answers for our Pals!
Happy Sailing!
