I am in the navy and want to plan a trip for May 2-5. I wont know if I will be able to take leave until a month before. Is it possible to still get reservations that close to the travel date? I would hate to book now and be told I cant go. Thanks!

Hi, Erica!  Resort availability varies greatly from season to season, but it would be my educated guess that even at a month out, you should be able to find something for early May.  You may have to be flexible in your accommodations, but I would venture to stay that since you are traveling after the Easter holidays and most spring breaks, there will be space available.

Now that I've said that, however, if you know you'd like to be there those dates, and you will know a full month out if you aren't able to go, I'd be tempted to book now to increase your chances of getting the room you want at the resort of your choice.  Your deposit is fully refundable at a month out, so if you find out you can't go those dates, you'll still be able to get your money back or apply it towards a different date.

I want to recommend with dining reservations as well - many of the popular restaurants book quickly.  I would call now and make your reservations for the meals you know you don't want to miss.  There is no penalty on most of the dining reservations if you have to cancel (some require a credit card deposit and will need advanced notice to cancel, but there are only a few of those), and by booking now, you can increase your chances of getting a reservation at some of the coveted character meals.

Have an absolutely magical vacation, and thank you so much for your dedication and service to our country!  We appreciate your sacrifice more than we could possibly tell you!
