Welcome aboard, Suzi! A mother-son cruise on the Disney Wonder is going to be a wonderful experience this month for you and your son! My son and I took an amazing mother-son cruise with Disney a few years back, when he was five, so I know you're in for magical memories together! In fact, our cruise was a Western Caribbean sailing on the Disney Magic, and we experienced some amazing Port Adventures together too!
While there are excellent Dolphin Swim experiences in many of the ports you'll visit, I haven't experienced them all. But, I can highly recommend the location we did visit in Grand Cayman. Besides the
Dolphin Encounter or
Extreme Dolphin Swim that are offered there (both allow six year-olds), they also offer a visit to both the
Dolphin Encounter and Stingray City. For the small amount of extra money that it costs to include both, I promise it is worth every extra penny! Dolphin Cove is a beautiful location where you will both get to interact with these amazing creatures! Then, instead of heading back to the ship after your once-in-a-lifetime swim with dolphins, you get to continue on to Stingray City. My son was so thrilled with our time there! He loved that we stopped at a sandbar in what seemed like the middle of the ocean and got to touch the truly remarkable stingrays that swam right up to us!
That being said, Disney only contracts with the best adventures available in each port, so if you opt to do a dolphin swim in another port, I'm sure it'll be truly spectacular too. But, I can highly suggest this combo adventure of the dolphin encounter and trip to Stingray City, Suzi!
Happy planning!
