Jen,
Thanks for your question to planDisney!
The best way for you to take care of this is to go to the front desk with the gift cards and tell them which account you want to pay off with the gift card credit. I find it far easier to have them assist you with this than to try to do it via the
My Disney Experience App or your
My Disney Experience account online.
An alternative for you is to use the cards physically as you go around the park to charge things, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having the convenience of the
MagicBands. While you can use a Disney Gift Card via your My Disney Experience account for select purchases, like mobile online ordering and mobile checkout, you cannot add the card to your account permanently like you would with a credit or debit card. Instead, when making one of those purchases you can opt for a Disney Gift Card as a payment option. When you get to the payment page you would select
“Use a Different Payment Method”, then select
“Add a Card”, then
“Disney Gift Card”. You would have to add the card on every purchase, as My Disney Experience cannot save the card into the system, but it is an alternative way to go about things.
Personally, I find it easier simply to go with my suggestion at the top of this reply. Go to the front desk of your resort hotel periodically, apply some of your credit value in advance, and charge away!
BONUS TIPWhile I would recommend you apply some of your gift card to your account before you start charging things, I do not recommend that you put all the balance over to your resort hotel account at the start of the trip. Why? Well, Disney cannot refund any of those transfers to you, so if you put $100 of a gift card onto your resort balance and only spend $90 of that, you lose the $10 remainder.
