Hi, I am a mother with 3 kids ages 15, 16, and 19. I would really like to surprise them with a family trip to Disney for the summer. Can you recommend a resort for a week stay on a budget? and attractions? I may travel with a family of 12 as well. Help :)

    Lakeitta,

I have a few recommendations for you.

First, consider using a Disney Authorized Vacation Planner. They will find all the best deals for you, including ones you are unlikely to find for yourself. As long as they are a no-fee agency, using them means getting a lot of help with making plans AND saving money, all for free!

My next suggestion is that you price out a standard room in a Value Resort, a Family Suite at the Art of Animation, a Fort Wilderness Cabin, and a standard room in a Moderate resort, preferably one of the two Port Orleans resorts. With each you can end up with different bed orientations, which could matter for you and the kids. In some cases it is just two beds, but in others there are sofa beds or other options that might make for better family harmony. To say one is better than another would be hard to do here, since I don't know how you travel as a family.

As for attractions, there are too many to list here. But I would recommend that you plan on 1 day per park, and if you have more than 4 days available to hit parks I would let the kids pick where to go those extra days. But don't just plan time at parks. Consider planning a night at Downtown Disney, and another at the BoardWalk. These can be budget-friendly destinations that offer shopping, dining, and the buzz of a family-friendly night life that can give the vacation some variety beyond the parks.

I hope this helps with a start? Write us back for more specific assistance and we are glad to help!

    Have a magical vacation!
