I have 18 month old twins and we are going on our first family vacation to Disneyworld the first week of March. We have booked the Animal Kingdom Lodge, however I wondering if maybe we should have booked a hotel closer to MK?

    Hi Carrie,

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a beautiful resort. It has a great pool which looks like an African river right down to the muddy water. If you have the good fortune to have a room with a view of the savannah, watching the animals from your balcony of your room is a very cool experience. This resort also has two of my favorite restaurants, Jiko and Boma which I suggest you try if you have the opportunity.

Traveling to and from the Animal Kingdom is done via buses. While this is not a long trip to all of the other parks, it does require managing children, a stroller and gear.

By staying at a resort closer to the Magic Kingdom, you can utilize boats or the monorail to travel between parks. This is a nice feature because you may not need to collapse your stroller.

I recommend for families with younger children to stay at a resort which allows you to travel to the parks without having to always be on a bus. While it may be more expensive, it may be more enjoyable as you can smoothly move between parks and your resort.

In addition, if you are going to be returning frequently to your resort during the day for naps or a break, this will save time as well.

Hope you have a wonderful vacation!
