Mom And Daughter; Animal Kingdom

    My mom is coming on our trip and staying at PO Riverside. Sadly she's been told to stay out of the sun for health reasons. I don't want her to cancel. Is there anything indoors for her to do before dinner at which time she can meet us and explore Disney?

    Hi Nancy!

    I'm sorry to hear about the change-up in your plans, but I hope your Mom can still go with you - family vacations at Walt Disney World are so special!

    During the day, I have a few suggestions that may work for her:
    • The main building at Port Orleans Riverside does have a lobby and lounge area. While the lounge is not officially open until 4pm, she may be able to relax there with a good book for a few hours.
    If a small amount of travel is possible, here are some mostly indoor activities:
    • Use the boat service to Downtown Disney, and take in a movie. Or, for more family fun, spend time at Splitsville - Disney's new bowling and dining venue. DisneyQuest is also all indoors and is located at Downtown Disney as well - but it will most likely not be a draw for your mom by herself.
    • Use the bus transportation to travel to the Magic Kingdom, but instead of entering the park, use the monorail to visit the Polynesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian. Spend time exploring the resorts, shopping, or enjoying a good book in a different atmosphere.
    • Head over to the Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge to soak up the atmosphere. At the Animal Kingdom Lodge, grab a calendar of events to see what is going on at the resort - she may be able to enjoy some fun (and usually free) indoor activities there.

    Last, but not least, if your mom wants to head over to Epcot with you, spend the majority of your day time hours at Innoventions. This indoor area is full of activities for families and you'll be able to stay out of the sun.
