Ahoy, Rachael! Thanks for sailing by planDisney with your question!
I still remember my very first Disney Cruise, when I genuinely thought we were about to do a mustard drill. I turned to my husband and said, “What on earth do condiments have to do with cruising?” That same trip, I also learned what “tendering” meant...clearly, I had a lot to learn! Thankfully, I’ve come a long way since then, and now I actually look forward to the Muster Drill (also called the Safety Assembly Drill on Disney Cruise Line), because once it’s done, the
Sail Away Party can begin!
On the
Disney Fantasy, Muster Station M is typically located outside on Deck 4. It’s your designated meeting spot in the unlikely event of an emergency, and attendance at the drill on embarkation day is mandatory for all Guests. The exact location of your assigned station is based on your stateroom and can be found on the back of your stateroom door, in the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, and printed right on your Key to the World card (you’ll see a letter “M” indicating your station). You’ll also notice clear signage around the ship and plenty of friendly Cast Members available to point you in the right direction.
The muster drill usually begins around 4:00 PM, but you’ll want to check the schedule in the Navigator app on embarkation day to confirm the exact time. There's no need to head over early. Just wait for the signal which is seven short blasts followed by one long horn.
In my experience, muster drills on deck can be sunny and warm, especially in the Florida heat. I recommend bringing a water bottle, sunglasses, and a hat to stay comfortable. You’ll need one Key to the World card per stateroom to check in, and families are typically asked to line up single-file, tallest to shortest. Life jackets are no longer required at the drill, but it’s still a good idea to try them on in your stateroom beforehand just so you’re comfortable with how they work. The whole drill takes about 20 minutes, and once it’s over, the fun really begins!
I hope this helps you feel more prepared, Rachael. Wishing you a fabulous sailing on the Disney Fantasy. Don’t hesitate to stop by again!
“Sea” ya real soon,
