Hiya, Billie, and welcome back to planDisney! I'm a native Kentuckian, so howdy from the Bluegrass State. It sounds like you have a
Walt Disney World Resort visit on the books, so let's talk about accessing the magic through MagicBands.
I chatted with a friendly Cast Member who said many older MagicBands retain much of their
functionality for several years. Their longevity depends on how much they've been used. For example, your bands might work as your theme park ticket but not link to PhotoPass or attraction photos. My tip is to bring your old bands along and try them out; you might be pleasantly surprised!
If you're staying at a
Disney Resort Hotel, you can pre-order bands at a discount up to six days before arrival. The discount amount varies by style, and you can purchase the newer version, MagicBand+, or the older MagicBand 2. Sign into your My Disney Experience account online and select "My MagicBands and Cards" to begin ordering. This resort discount is the only one offered for MagicBands, and guests at the military resort Shades of Green do not have the option to pre-order bands.
You can also peruse
MagicBand offerings online at the Disney Store. I see a few styles are on sale, so that's another option if your trip isn't coming up too soon. After it arrives, you need to link this band to your account using its serial number. You'll also see MagicBands for sale at many shops in the theme parks, at Disney Springs, and at resort hotels.
Most styles being sold now are
MagicBand+. This rechargeable band offers lights and haptics that interact with entertainment and statues throughout the parks. If you opt for one of these newer bands, my tip is not to worry if you forget to charge it. The band will still act as your theme park ticket and more, even if it's not charged. But on a full battery, you'll get many fun surprises from the lights and vibrations.
Billie, I hope I've given you some options for wearing the magic on your upcoming visit. Please
stop by planDisney anytime!
Magic awaits,
Elaine
