If 1 member of our party does not scan into a lightning lane pass and becomes ineligible, how can they use the pass later in the day? Can they become eligible somehow?

    Hiya, Stephanie!

I’m always happy to help a fellow Pennsylvanian plan a practically perfect Disney day!

It sounds like you’re making great use of Lightning Lane passes to maximize your time in the parks—smart move! I’ve used them many times myself, and I love being able to skip the standby line and plan ahead for must-do attractions. You’ve asked a great question, and the answer depends on what type of Lightning Lane pass you have.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass (LLMP): On the day of your visit, once you redeem a LLMP selection (or once the arrival window has passed), you can use the My Disney Experience app to check availability and book another Lightning Lane experience. If one member of your party doesn’t scan in, they have a couple of options. They can modify their Lightning Lane to a later time in the app by tapping on the Lightning Lane Passes section of the home screen, as long as new times are available. If they let the pass expire, they won’t be able to modify it, but it will open up a new booking window to grab another available attraction. Just keep in mind that return windows are one hour long.

Lightning Lane Single Pass (LLSP): This one works a little differently! If someone misses their return time, they won’t be able to rebook the same attraction that day. Sometimes there’s a short grace period, but that’s up to the Cast Members at the entrance. To avoid missing out, I recommend modifying the return window in the app before it expires, if later times are available.

A little pixie-dusted advice: If a Lightning Lane pass expires for either type of pass, you typically won’t be able to rebook that same attraction for the day. However, if there were extenuating circumstances, it never hurts to check with the friendly Cast Members at a Guest Experience Team location (look for the blue umbrellas in the parks) as they may be able to help!

When pre-booking your Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections, I suggest starting with the day you think will be the hardest to secure your must-do rides, then working your way to the easiest day. Also, if you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, consider rope-dropping a popular attraction during Early Theme Park Entry before your LLMP selections even begin, and that way, you’ll get a head start on an incredible day!

I hope this helps, Stephanie! If you need any more clarification on Lightning Lanes or anything else, I’m all ears. Wishing you a magical vacation!
