    hi there in may 2015 my family is going on fantasy cruise my wife and I are going to try the 5k run on castaway I have heard the quit giving medals out at the end of the run is that true

    Welcome aboard, Ricky! I was just on Castaway Cay last week, as my family and I were enjoying a fantastic week on the Disney Magic! Castaway Cay is one of my favorite beaches in the world, as there is so much to do that is all included in the cost of your cruise! 

    I ran the Castaway Cay 5K this past November and did receive one of the plastic Disney Cruise Line medals upon completion. Last week I happened to be standing near the finish line as some of the runners came across, and they, too, were receiving the medals. I know that in some cases, certain sailings may have been out of medals, so those particular runs did not offer them, but in my experience, guests have been receiving the medals, so hopefully you'll find the same! In the past, when medals were not available, a certificate was delivered to the guests' staterooms later in the day, but as I said, even last week, I saw the medals available!

    The run is a really nice one, heading out the old airplane landing strip to the bike path loop, up to Serenity Bay and back again. There are water dispensers in a couple of spots on the bike path loop, but be sure to hydrate yourself well before running, as most likely you're not used to running in the tropical temperatures and humidity. The best part about this was being able to dive into the ocean to cool off after a wonderful run to start the day on Disney's private island! The race ends near a the Buy The Sea Shore gift shop on the island that sells Castaway Cay 5K shirts. I purchased two different styled shirts with Castaway Cay 5K on them, so be sure to buy yourself a souvenir as you complete your run!
