We may have to drive this year, do we have to pay for parking or would we need to take the bus to the parks if we don't want the extra expence of parking?

It depends on where you're staying. Guests staying at the WDW resort hotels can park at the Disney theme parks for free. You'll be given a placard at check-in that you can leave on the dashboard of your car during your stay. This will let you park at no charge.

Guests staying off-site will pay a parking fee. Prices can change, but currently it costs $12 per day to park at the Disney theme parks.
