Does the mattress on pull down Murphy beds at like Boulder Ridge come off to lay on the floor or can bed rails fit on it? We will have an 18 month old that is wiggly, but who we were hoping to put there instead of renting a toddler bed. Thanks!

    Hi there, Danielle!

Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge are the perfect rustic retreat. I always feel like I'm getting a double vacation - one in the serenity of the wilderness in the Pacific Northwest and the other at my favorite Central Florida theme park. Oh, Walt Disney World, how you spoil us!

The Murphy bed in some of the resort villas is sort of a rectangular box. The mattress sits inside the box, so putting guard rails in for your little one is going to be a challenge. The mattress itself lifts right out of the box, though, so if you need to put it on the floor for safety's sake, it's not that difficult to do. I'd just recommend putting the bed frame back up to avoid head bumps in the middle of the night.

There are also Pack 'n' Play style play yards available at no additional cost that can accommodate most children up until about two years old. I have one daughter that probably could have used it until she was three or four.

The other alternative is to put your baby in the bed with a guard rail on one side and a grown up on the other. Then you can use the Murphy bed for someone else. It's not a regular size twin bed, but it can easily fit a small or slightly shorter adult.

Have a wonderfully magical vacation, Danielle!
