Elizabeth,
Disney doesn't send out planning DVDs or printed maps these days. But they do have a great
interactive park map that will let you explore the parks, the resorts, and everything else in the world. Walt Disney World, that is!
What is great about the interactive map is you can filter out things that don't matter to you, viewing only those items of interest. Maybe you just want to look at dining choices, or perhaps attractions. The filtering feature makes the maps a bit more readable than the old print versions that could get hard to read with so many items marked across them.
This map is also available via the
My Disney Experience App on your smartphone. While it is great to view at home, it becomes your best friend in the parks. It can help you find what characters are out and about, and when. You can find nearby restaurants and, in many cases, place a mobile order for a quick pick up. There are a lot of other great things it can do for you, but I will leave that for another answer.
But you asked about mailed maps. I too like to have a printed map in hand at times. While Disney does not send them out, you can see PDFs of recent maps on many unofficial Disney Fan sites, like the Disney Food Blog. You can view and print these out for your planning needs. I usually find these fit my needs, but you want to be sure when they were uploaded. Disney updates their maps regularly, so if it is more than 6 months old, you are probably not working from a current and up to date map.
Write me back if you have any follow-up questions!
Have a Magical Vacation!
