Will the magic kingdom train be closed in August 2025 ? Will test track be open August 2025 ? If there is a soft opening, how would we get on ? Many thanks

    Hi Nicola!

Thanks for bringing all of these great questions to planDisney! We’re always happy to help. In fact, the attractions we’re chatting about today are some of my boys’ favorites, so they would be priorities for us, too!

Since the Magic Kingdom has a couple of train attractions, let's go over both of them just to make sure I have you covered.

Looking ahead, I’m happy to report that I don’t see any closures for the Walt Disney World Railroad at the Magic Kingdom at this time. Of course, things could change before August rolls around. So, I recommend checking that specific attraction online or on the My Disney Experience app when your trip gets closer to ensure it’s still operating on the dates you’ll be visiting.

If you were thinking more along the lines of the wildest ride in the wilderness, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, that attraction will be closed for refurbishment in August 2025. It's set to reopen in 2026.

Moving onto Epcot, let's talk about Test Track! I’m SO excited to see what the Imagineers have been working so hard on once it opens back up. The Disney Parks Blog recently gave us an update saying that Test Track is set to reopen in late summer 2025. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that it’s open in time for your trip!

I’m not quite sure if there will be a soft opening for Test Track or how it will work if there is one. In recent years, just before a new attraction opens, there has been a Virtual Queue for select guests (such as Cast Members or Annual Passholders) to join to preview the attraction. When Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened in 2024, all of the soft opening information was shared ahead of time, so keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for any announcements.

If you have any other questions as you continue to plan your 2025 Disney World trip, come back to visit us!
